In Acts 6-7 we see a need arise in the early church – The food distribution is excluding some widows. Stephen and others are put in charge of this. Through this, we see that practical service to our community is important in the early church. This leads to Stephen being arrested and questioned by the Temple Leaders who, upon hearing what they believe is blasphemy by Stephen, have him stoned to death. A great persecution, led by a young Pharisee named Saul, breaks out against the church.
