Homestead Music Academy exists to provide quality music education to students in Farmington and the surrounding communities.

Applied Lessons

Music lessons are 30 minutes in length and are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.   Instructors are currently taking lessons for beginner, intermediate and advanced students.

Classroom Instruction

We offer two Homeschool music classes: Music Fundamentals  and Music History.  Classes are divided into two age groups to provide age appropriate instruction.  These classes will meet on Monday and Thursday mornings.

Meet the Instructors

Gary Denbow 

Academy Administrator, woodwind, piano, bass instructor
Gary Denbow II is a Twin Cities based performer, composer, arranger, and educator. He received his master's degree's from the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance where he studied under jazz great Bobby Watson.  Currently, he is an adjunct professor of music at SUM Bible College and Seminary.  Gary has 13 years of private lesson and classroom teaching experience.  He is the founder and director of The Bo Den Bo Project, which is a jazz ensemble that reinterprets modern church music.  He is also the artistic director for NorthStar Big Band and is a member of the Genesis Jazz Orchestra led by Dave Hagedorn.  He has 35 years of experience as a church musician in various contexts.

Kristie Kerr

Vocal & Piano Instructor
Kristie Kerr completed her undergrad in vocal performance in 1996 from North Central University in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Since then she has been an instructor, performer and church musician in a variety of capacities including adjunct instruction, choral conducting, and theater production. She brings 25 years of teaching experience and a passion to see her students find and develop their gifts to Homestead Music Academy.
She is the co-pastor of Homestead Community Church alongside her husband Jeff.  They planted the church in 2015 and love serving the community. She is also a speaker and author and has written a series of books for boys and girls called Polka Dot Girls and Bazooka boys.  She is currently completing her masters degree in Biblical Theology.

Ann Lane

Piano Instructor
Ann Lane has over 50 years of experience as a professional pianist, accompanist and instructor.  She has served as a college level accompanist as well as teaching at the university level. Ann is a sought after accompanist for both theater, choral, and church programs. Her passion is for students to grow in their technique and proficiency while having fun! She lives in Apple Valley, Minnesota where she enjoys spending time with her eight grandchildren and her dog Buddy.

Kevin Mills

Drums, Guitar, Bass & Concert Band Instruments
Kevin Mills is a composer, arranger, and multi instrumentalist, performing professionally on drums, saxophone and guitar. He has a Master of Arts in music education from the University of Minnesota. His careers have included Assistant Professor of Music (North Central University, Minneapolis, 13 years) and Director of Instrumental Music (New Hope Church, New Hope, 7 years). Kevin teaches drums, guitar, bass, and all concert band instruments (except oboe and bas- soon).
Currently, Kevin is a mental health support specialist with People Incorporated, and is doing his best to become an internet sensation.
Kevin is the founder and director of the eighteen-piece KCGO Big Band (check us out on Facebook!) and is the assistant director of the 70+ member Shoreview Northern Lights Variety Band.
